Rest, December & Remembering to Enjoy Your Life- NOV
Welcome to The Gist with Lisa.
I’m your host, Annalisa — and today, I’m happy to bring you the gist of my day.
Oh hello, hello my people, my family.
Today I want to talk about the good stuff.
I’m in a happy mood because it’s almost December. And if you’re African — if you’re Nigerian, South African, Ghanaian — you already KNOW what December means. It means traveling back home and having the best time of your life. And of course, that “best time” looks different for everyone, but for me, it's joy and prayer.
So earlier I was on the phone with my mom talking about our December plans. We were discussing taking a family vacation, and since we’re a family of five, you already know that cost is not small. I was thinking, “Man, this is a lot. We could put this towards business or something else productive.”
But her response stopped me. She said:
“It’s the end of the year. We need this time. We’ll figure it out. We’ll make the money back. What matters is the memories, the time together, and the quality time as a family.”
And honestly, it’s true.
Sometimes we over-prioritize making a living over actually enjoying the living we’re striving to build.
Of course, we have responsibilities and goals. But it’s okay to pause, take a moment, make memories, and actually enjoy your life. Be thankful for the gift of life itself. Some people chase the life they’re trying to build and lose their own lives in the process.
But thank God that’s not our story.
Rest is important. Overworking won’t do it. I’m the kind of person who loves to build, to create, to make progress. But I’m learning that discipline includes rest — not just getting work done.
So how about you?
Are you traveling this December?
Are you having a family vacation?
If not, plan something. Spend time with your loved ones. You never know when they won’t be here anymore.
All right
Cheers.
